How To Improve Your Focus

“My success, part of it certainly, is that I have focused in on a few things.”

Bill Gates

How many of these are true for you right now?

  • you have 3+ tabs open
  • your phone is next to you
  • TV/music is playing in the background
  • food is within reach
  • there is something more important you should be doing

If there were at least two, you know how chaotic your attention can be. Our attention span leaps from stimulus to stimulus so quickly that keeping up isn’t an option. The decrease in focus is a growing issue for our generation…but is there a solution for a disorganized brain?

Gaining focus is exceedingly important in our world of “now, now, NOW”. May I suggest you an important questions that will determine your effort: Once you gain the focus, how do you plan on keeping it?

Before giving your response, here are some proven methods that you should consider:

Exercise

Engaging in physical activity can intensely promote brain health — this has been proven time & time again through scientific trials.

In layman’s terms: The activity you exert strengthens the signals in key brain structures. Strong brain signals matched with higher competence is the recipe for mental clarity. Those who study for exams can testify that regular physical activity has a positive correlation with effective studying (leading to higher grades).

It is a blessing that making exercise a priority will benefit our mental just as much as our physical selves. Even 30 minutes of walking a few times per week makes a difference.

Open your mind to the possibility of an increased quality of life.

Natural Supplements

Natural supplements can restore the brain’s chemistry to its normal functioning (with the consideration of an appropriate lifestyle). There are several supplements nowadays that include nootropic ingredients — proven safe and effective for an array of brain functions.

With nootropics, it turns out there are several solutions for a cluttered mind. The best part is the large majority of the population aren’t aware of its existence!

Write It Out

Seriously? YES! Simply writing about your goals, your stress, your gratitude, your anything, makes a world of difference. The thought of writing down anything can raise some doubts or even some anxious feelings.

This being said, try to keep an open mind to the possibilities of growth through this process. Through writing for self improvement, focus is a natural gain. Visualizing our goals and ideas can spark new paths for progress!

No need to commit to writing every day for a year. Try once a week and watch how much progress you’ll have!

Pro tip:

write the date every time you begin.

Mindfulness Activity

Do you ever just sit with yourself? No noise, no distraction, and not a single thought in your head?

That sounds absolutely terrifying for some of you, but those who do engage in it, consistently praise the clarity and focus it brings to their life.

One big example: meditating!

You will find plenty of history on this ancient practice & the fruits of its existence. Like all things worthwhile, meditation cannot be perfected in the first session. To achieve the benefits, you must heed the process as a personal upgrade.

Start by eliminating any type of distraction (all senses) and sit with yourself for 10 minutes. The most important part: focus on your breathing. The deeper the breaths, the deeper the focus.

Lastly, be fair.

There is no straight path to success. In order to achieve optimum focus, make an effort to include all of these options in your life. Please reach out if you would like any help, any advice, or any recommendations. 🙂
