Contrary to popular belief, successful people have an equal amount of hours in the day as we do. And they make it look so easy. Are they super-humans with better brain power? Maybe they have secrets to success that we don’t have access to?
First of all, no, but those suggestions are funny to consider. This term has buzz around it nowadays — I personally can’t stand it — but here it is: mindset. Wait! Let me explain before you roll your eyes at me again….
There are extreme mental luxuries to getting your mind right. Here are some hacks that you can apply and watch your successes begin to unfold:
Start So Small You Can’t Say No
There is a misconception that we always need to have a huge goal outlined for the future. NOT TRUE. Start so small that it requires zero internal effort, zero motivation. This could be: reading one page of a book. walking 10 minutes outside (don’t have 10 minutes? make it 5). eating one healthy snack today. writing one paragraph for your blog.
Small examples, huge building blocks.
Reward Yourself
Whaaaaat? There’s some fun in being productive? You’re damn right. The payoff will come along the way, but until then it’s so important to enjoy your journey. For all of you psychology students (shoutout to you), we have been preached the theory that “actions that get rewarded, get repeated”. OKAY PAVLOV, WE GET IT. YOU WERE RIGHT. Shoutout to Pavlov?
Get In An Efficient Environment
No disrespect with these questions….How do you expect to be productive by spending HOURS reading about other people’s lives, looking at their photos, and reading depressing news? How could you focus if your friends are constantly judging others and have no purpose?
To be productive, we must realize that our environment plays a supporting role (you are the leading role). That being said, the right environment has almost nothing to do with mental effort.
The difference a clean space has versus a cluttered frenzy will speak volumes when you experience the difference. If you can never have a moment alone, this is a huge deterrent from productivity.
To-Do = TaDa!
Creating a to-do list for the day means you are standing up for your efforts. You are holding yourself accountable and it feels damn good when you put a checkmark on the list.
Consider your to-do list as a roadmap for the day. What is the most important thing on your list today and what will bring you closer to achieving it right now?
