Our time is a vulnerable topic.
Why? We can not buy time. We can SAVE time, SPEND time, WASTE time, but we cannot BUY time.
It’s a common logic. I’m not telling you anything that you didn’t already know. Many of us go through life knowing many practical pieces of advice, but don’t apply them to our lives until much later down the road. Think of those who put off saving for retirement, going on vacation, starting a new hobby, paying attention to their diet, fill in the blank! What can we do to *make sure* that we are well prepared for what’s to come?
Living every day like it’s our last day on Earth is neither a responsible way to live, nor is it a reliable way to live. It’s not a long-term strategy – and unfortunately, to make the most of our times, we have to remember this sooner rather than later. Think of ONE thing you could do for “future you”. (It could even be for tomorrow or a month from now).
Sometimes when I’m really in a rut, I don’t feel like doing anything that remotely reminds me of “work”. It could be as simple as folding laundry. Whenever I apply the principle of doing something for my future self & going through with it, I’ve always immediately felt much better about myself and my potential.
We cannot live in a constant state of “now” without suffering consequences “later” (“later” will eventually become “now”, so you are just delaying the inconvenience).
Time is vulnerable because it holds our memories. It’s responsible for making them last. Time flies when you’re in good company. Time seems to drag when we’re stuck in a job that we hate. Isn’t that interesting? Is it because we’re not fully absorbed in the moment, or is it because our subconscious is telling us, “hey, this sucks, can we just do something else?”
If Time Is So Valuable, Why Don’t We Acknowledge It?
A phenomenon that interests me a lot is how we waste our own time. People will spend years in a relationship with someone they don’t love. At a job where we feel underappreciated. In an area that serves us no fulfillment / opportunity. To waste time is to waste life.
It’s something I hold dearly to me because I’ve known several individuals who complain about wanting a better life but doing nothing about the idea. It’s only an idea for them; they think it is unattainable so putting in any effort seems useless.
What Can You Do?
There are many ways you can be more proactive in your own life. I’m not here to delegate how to structure your day – but rather encourage you to make a change. Get some perspective on how you’ve been sabotaging your time this week.
I read an amazing book about using my time more effectively in order to get a more meaningful life. It can be found here.
If you end up reading it, please let me know what you thought & I’d love to feature you in my next blog post!
No more wasting time.
