5 LIFE LESSONS TO LEARN AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE

5 LIFE LESSONS TO LEARN AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE

It’s weird how long it takes for some of us to learn lessons that seem like common sense (once they’re internalized). Perhaps we know the truth deep down, but don’t want to accept that it applies to us? We could be the small percentage that thrive without learning this specific lesson? People are weird! And everyone thinks they’re more special than you. Don’t take it personally, because deep down there are times you feel that same way. The lessons I feel are most important to touch on are pretty straightforward.

The earlier you learn these, the better off you’ll be. Ready?

1. You Will Never Please Everyone.

(Ever). Talk about a sigh of relief!! Every single interaction you have with another person will not end up perfectly. Why in the world did you think otherwise?

I respect those who put their best foot forward on all occasions, but my respect starts to dwindle when they’re stretching themselves thin to get someone’s validation. At what point does that person lose their integrity; how far are they willing to go to seek approval?

Granted, there are millions of people who grew up without having any internal / external validation from people close to them. Therefore it’d be a damn hard lesson to learn as an adult. For those of you who grew up in those environments, I see you, I understand, and you’re fully accepted by me (a stranger on the internet). Learning – early in life – that you will never please everyone will give you a sense of freedom. I assure you.

2. It’s Okay Not To Have All The Answers

Guess who doesn’t have all the answers either? GOOGLE. There is no shame in having to ask for help, for clarity, or for further instruction.

Anytime that I discuss the stock market with my friends, (who at one point thought the Stock Market was a scam), they are quick to ask questions / clarifications for terms that I might use. Do I see them as stupid or ignorant? Of course not, on the contrary, it would be ignorant for me to assume they knew everything about investing.

Our apprehension towards asking someone for help is only holding ourselves back. There has been research done that showed people appreciate when others come to them with questions. It makes them feel trusted, worthy, and more likely to view you in a positive light.

The most intelligent people are those who continue to ask questions – they are the ones who gain the deeper insights.

3. Money Isn’t The Solution To Your Problems

You’ll hear me say this often, but it’s something worth repeating: money is not a goal. Money is a tool. Think of the BILLIONS (with a capital B) of people who live fulfilling, virtuous lives without putting so much importance on currency. They are not surrounded by surface level humans that only care for materialistic lives. Happiness has never had a “buy” option.

I’m not ignoring the fact that several circumstances in our lives can be solved with money (student loan debt, credit card payments, etc.). I’m speaking to those who believe happiness is a tangible object.

4. Health Is Wealth, Baby!

How many days in the week do you stretch? How many days in the week do you drink at least 5 glasses of water? How many days in the week do you take 5-10 minutes to meditate / reflect? The immense impact that these actions can have on our health is nothing short of impressive. Not to mention when incorporating a nutritious diet…phew! You’re almost a superhero at that point. It’s hard to explain, but when we spend time taking care of our bodies, there’s an overwhelming clear headspace that forms. It’s like a level of “in the zone” that can only be described as bliss. Health. Is. Wealth. Never think otherwise.

5. Gain Some Perspective. Yesterday.

This is my personal favorite. The power of thinking outside of yourself prohibits us from blowing things out of proportion. It’s too easy to magnify all of your negative thoughts when that’s all you focus on.

Have you heard the saying: you look for a yellow car, you’ll eventually find a yellow car. You look for negativity, you’ll undoubtedly find negativity. You look for opportunity, you’ll find it all around you.

We are given a choice. Every day. We can view the world with a bitter mind, or with a level head. No one is cutting you off in traffic just to piss you off and no one is obsessing over the blemish on your face, either. That’s all your thinking about? You’ll find illogical signs to justify that it “must be true”.  Most people are too focused on themselves anyways. You were cut off in traffic because the other person may be running late, may have thought you left enough room for them, or whatever else. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Gain some perspective.

The sooner these lessons are implemented in our lives, the sooner we’re able to live more intentionally. Too many people are stuck in a reactive state of being – it’s exhausting. Think on it, and tell me what other lessons are crucial to learn early-on.
