GUIDANCE FOR A GROWTH MINDSET
Are you fixed in your ways? Or are you ready to grow?
A growth mindset! If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s a huge buzzword (buzzphrase?) in the motivation communities online and around the world lately. You’re going to like this one.
Wanna know why? Because of how effective it can be for YOUR ENTIRE OUTLOOK on life.
Maybe you were brought up with negative parents, siblings, friends, teachers, peers, animals, thoughts, fill in the blank. That does not mean you are stuck in your ways for the rest of your days. So get that first negative thought out of here. A growth mindset helps us lean into our potential, accelerate our success, and overcome self limiting beliefs that we’ve held onto for years.
First off, let’s discuss what the top three differences are between a fixed mindset vs. a growth mindset.
Top 3 Differences Between Fixed Mindset & Growth Mindset:
Your fixed mindset deliberately keeps you away from challenges. There’s an underlying fear of failure and avoiding responsibility. A growth mindset would view challenges as a learning experience: engaging and enticing. There is something valuable to be learned.
A growth mindset allows the individual to stay the course until the challenge has been weathered.
The fixed mindset isn’t a fan of mistakes. It’s either perfect or it’s worth mentioning. Any type of potential embarrassment is an easy NOPE. Easy to be defensive when someone calls them out. Sounding familiar?
The growth mindset, on the other hand, understands there’s a lesson to be learned from mistakes made. Criticism isn’t taken as personally but rather reflected on. Was the criticism constructive or destructive? Being open to the input from others can greatly enhance the ability to improve over time.
A fixed mindset is ready to tell you about the slightest stress from doing hard work. They deserve better, right? They may ask others to continue for them or spread the efforts out over a long period of time – elongating the process for nothing.
The growth mindset understands what’s required and is prepared to take on the work. The more dedication upfront, the more likely results will show themselves. Growth mindset holds the belief exertion is a key component to desired outcomes. Effort is part of the process, no matter what.
Well, well, well. The growth mindset is starting to look more and more appealing, isn’t it?
